Mike was born in Denver Colorado on February 2nd, 1971. His parents are Joe Mike Ellis and Yvonne Irene Ellis. Joe worked as a pipefitter and Yvonne was a stay at home mom. When Mike was 5 they moved from Denver to Grand Junction Colorado to be closer to Yvonne’s family. They lived in a trailer on a lot adjacent to Miracle Roofing and Insulation, the family business on Yvonne’s side. This was good as Mike spent lot’s of time with grandparents, Blackie and Clara, and uncle Dean, as they all worked there.
Later Mike’s family moved into a nicer house and Mike attended 2nd through 6th grade at Tope Elementary. Mike’s brother, David Scott, was born in 1979 when Mike was 7.
Mike started Junior High school at West Junior High. Mike and his father also got involved in riding motorcycles in the local desert. He then got involved in racing Odesseys, a dune buggy type car, on the local tracks. Mike did well and showed great talent winning often. Eventually he started racing regionally and then eventually on the national circuit. In Mike’s final race in San Jose California, he finished 10th in class at the Mickey Thompson Off Road Nationals.
Shortly after Joe and Yvonne got divorced. Joe went back to Denver and Yvonne was left to raise the two boys alone. Mike matured a lot through that process and acted as the “man of the house” even though he was only twelve years old.
Mike then attended 9th through 12th grade at Grand Junction High School. Mike was actively involved with Band, playing the Trumpet, Trombone, and Tuba.
